Responsibilities: • Installing fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, hydrants, and suppression systems • Performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance on firefighting equipment • Testing alarms, smoke detectors, pumps, valves, and emergency systems • Troubleshooting and repairing faulty fire protection equipment • Ensuring compliance with local fire safety codes and regulations • Keeping maintenance records, inspection reports, and service logs • Responding to emergency breakdowns or fire system faults • Conducting safety checks in commercial, industrial, or residential buildings • Coordinating with engineers, safety officers, and contractors during installations • Training staff or occupants on proper use of firefighting equipment • Monitoring fire pumps, emergency exits, and evacuation systems • Recommending replacement or upgrades for outdated equipment Common systems and equipment they work with: • Fire alarm panels • Sprinkler systems • Fire pumps • FM200 / CO₂ suppression systems • Smoke and heat detectors • Hose reels and hydrants • Portable fire extinguishers Required skills often include: • Knowledge of fire safety standards (NFPA, Civil Defense regulations, etc.) • Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting • Reading technical drawings and schematics • Attention to detail and safety awareness • Physical fitness and ability to work in emergency conditions
